Dialogue from "Le Joli Mai" directed by Chris Marker
lyrics
I came into this world to stay alive
I was born owned by a master
Once I earned my freedom
I continued to act as a slave
Like a vampire
everything you did
to stop me from being free
was so easy to reassimilate.
As you were so convinced
that you were fighting me
I was starting to make sense
of what it means to be free
You started to buy a bunch of things
As if being free meant owning a bunch of shit
And you were so convinced
That it was the only way...
You were so sure you were living the dream
But the wound in my back was getting deeper
From the very beginning, I was so fragile

One of the best death inflected doom metal releases of the year, hands down. The atmosphere that Occlith sets is masterfully executed to fully envelope the listener under their crushing, powerful sound. If you're a fan of the subgenre, this is an essential LP. Camel

One of the most consistent, pummeling, noisy metal records I've heard in a long time. Blows me away consistently with ferocious vocals and screeching riffs. Incredible stuff. amoebicmint
Seattle band Adzes craft sludgy dirges with elements of noise rock, post-metal and shoegaze, united by a staunch moral compass. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 3, 2020
"Curse These Metal Hands" parlays the UK bands' chemistry into a record which—for all its tinnitus-inducing ferocity and elegiac arrangements—practically drips with transcendent joy. Bandcamp Album of the Day Aug 19, 2019
The Alberta crushers hold tight to their rank, astral-gazing grindcore, staring down abyssal torment all the while. Bandcamp Album of the Day Mar 31, 2020

Listening to this album is quite odd and rather uncomfortable, which I imagine is by design. It is well written, and the tone of everything is excellent (especially that sludgey bass tone that actually gave a presence in the mix). There is DM, ambience, atmosphere, and many odd rhythms and melodies. I'm still not sure how I feel about this LP, but I keep coming back and listening to it, so take that as you will. Camel
